5 Forum Marketing Tips That Matter
Forum posting can be fun or tedious. It can be very time consuming and it can also be very profitable. Here are a couple of forum marketing tips that can help you increase the positive and decrease the negative.
Tip #1. Wait until you get ‘known’ around a forum before you start promoting stuff. And yes, that means spending a little bit of time reading and replying to people’s posts. Now if you’re just there for backlinks, than at least post a comment that is relative. But if you actually want people to read what you post and trust it to have real value for them, than start your forum posting with the goal of helping others, and you’ll eventually help yourself in a much bigger way.
Tip #2. Make sure you’re posting in forums that are clearly related to your niche. I know this is obvious, but I see people promoting stuff that has nothing to do with why the forum members are part of that forum all the time.
Tip #3. Find a way to make yourself stand out from the crowd. Don’t just do what everyone else is doing. Take your forum posting to a whole new level…be creative here. As always, provide value, whether it benefits you or not, like recommending a personal development book that addresses that situation. Be true to who you are…let your personality shine through…people who are like you will be drawn to you. Be passionate. If you’re in a niche that you care nothing about, good look showing real passion! Basically, don’t follow the crowd.
Tip #4. Be picky about the forums you select to market in. Consider things like, do they allow you to include a link in your post, how often people are posting in it, are any of the people posting asking questions and interacting, or is it just full of a bunch of link spammers (like you find in too many facebook groups)? Being selective with your forum posting will give you a better return for your time investment.
Tip #5. Forum Posting on controversial topics is a great way to generate some interest and interaction. Just be careful here. You don’t want to start a war. Generally, both parties end up looking like idiots when things get ugly. But posting on topics that people are very passionate about can really draw a lot of attention to you, and by posting thoughtful, intelligent comments, you can make yourself stand out from the crowd of emotion jockeys just fanning the flames.
Now I realize these are pretty simple, straightforward forum marketing tips, but you would be amazed at the number of people who overlook these details when using forum marketing as one of their online marketing strategies.
Just remember, forum posting is an investment of your time that, done right, will continually increase your returns, like blogging and article marketing. If you think you’re going to start forum posting and have a flood of people instantly coming to your site and buying your stuff or joining your business, it’s time for a reality check.
But if you understand the process of forum marketing going in, and market with integrity, you can reap some pretty cool rewards.
